[EN] On Saturday, June 21 2024, we gathered in the LuFo park for the closing of the residencies of artists Marcus Kaiser and Kaya Erdinç, as part of the Reading the Region program. The afternoon featured a composition by Marcus Kaiser, performed together with Germaine Sijstermans, and a collective reading of Kaya Erdinç’s text A Silent Sjtil.
Since March, both artists had been working at Greylight Projects in collaboration with Ludwig Forum Aachen. During their three-month residency, they explored the region and connected their research with the local context:
- Marcus Kaiser collaborated with the GTB Lab in Heerlen, experimenting with spatial and ecological processes.
- Kaya Erdinç explored how poetry can function as a compass within our ever-changing experience of privacy, unfolding his practice through a dialogue between language, image, and sound, with attention to recurrence and return in cultural and social structures.
Reading the Region is a program of Very Contemporary that supports research residencies in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion, fostering cultural, social, and ecological engagement as well as cross-border dialogue and collaboration.
[NL] Op zaterdag 21 juni vond in het LuFo-park de afsluiting plaats van de residencies van kunstenaars Marcus Kaiser en Kaya Erdinç, als onderdeel van het programma Reading the Region. Tijdens deze middag klonk een compositie van Marcus Kaiser, uitgevoerd samen met Germaine Sijstermans, en lazen we gezamenlijk Kaya Erdinç’ tekst A Silent Sjtil.
Beide kunstenaars waren sinds maart actief bij Greylight Projects, in samenwerking met het Ludwig Forum Aachen. In hun drie maanden residentie verkenden zij de regio en verbonden hun onderzoek met de lokale context:
- Marcus Kaiser werkte samen met het GTB Lab in Heerlen rond ruimtelijke en ecologische processen.
- Kaya Erdinç onderzocht hoe poëzie kan functioneren als kompas binnen onze steeds veranderende ervaring van privacy.
Reading the Region is een programma van Very Contemporary dat onderzoekresidencies ondersteunt in de Euregio Maas-Rijn en inzet op culturele, sociale en ecologische verbondenheid.
