This podcast reflects on the exhibition Living apart together that took place in Greylight Projects in Heerlen in August and September 2024
Artists Tianyi Zheng, Eliisa Loukola, Ida Leijting and Lena Longefay met in 2022 through the Apprentice/Master programme organised by Kunstpodium T.
Kunstpodium T is a talent development organisation for beginning artists, located in Tilburg. Annually, they provide a programme in which budding artists are paired in groups with experienced artists.
By creating a final exhibition, the artists can win the so-called ‘Jan Naaijkens Prize’, as part of which they get to put together an exhibition.
This exhibition was shown at Greylight Projects and is part of the Jan Naaijkens Prize they received for their work while participating in the Kunstpodium T programme.
Each of the artists has presented recent works in the exhibition, from videoworks to sculptures.
These works will show how, as a group, they carry out a dynamic investigation into intersections between nature, heritage, collectivity and friendship.
Their common artist practice deals with issues of belonging and collaboration.
Those practices expresses itself incidentally as ‘the Department of Collective Collaboration’. This is a platform that seeks to challenge conventional perceptions of creative institutions and redefine the idea of collective creativity. They do this mainly from the brief in-between spaces created in the workplace.
Towards the rising of the exhibition plans the artist had some brief email communication which you listen to now. It gives a glimps of the connenctions made between the artists from out of their very different locations where they are based; The Hague, Hong Kong and Helsinki.
